The Olympic Ethanol

The paper The Olympic Ethanol examines in detail the prospect of electrification of the Brazilian car fleet, and what impact that would have on the sugar and ethanol sector.

We show the drivers for a change in Brazilian environmental policy and why the transport sector is a low-hanging fruit, even if Brazil has a greener fuel matrix than most countries. Projecting the main drivers, we simulate scenarios for the pace of transition over the period 2020-2040, and show the impact on gasoline and ethanol demand.

As the Brazilian ethanol sector has a logical escape route diverting cane to sugar production, we also analyse the actual viability of this change – and what the implications are for the world sugar market and its primary players.

Towards the end of the 50 pages, we provide high-level strategic advice regarding positioning in the different scenarios.

The Olympic Ethanol is available in English and Portuguese at USD 795. For further information or to schedule follow-up discussions, kindly use the contact box above or write to sjensen@1852advisory.pt.
